  • power to receptacle, yet plug does not work

I have power to the receptacle, yet the plug does not work. I took a known working receptacle and same thing. My tester shows power from the black that is connected to the plug. Could there be a short from the neutral. I cannot figure it out.

Is the receptacle possibly a GFI that's tripped or on a line that has one. Or perhaps the neutral is on a switch? Just a thought and I apologize if I'm being presumptuous. (Looking for picture)

It is a gfi, but have tested non gfi recep's with same result. I will check if any other connections are gfi. sometimes get a flicker of light in my tester. i am thinking it is a loose connection somewhere. new house and panel is not labeled.
      thanks

It's not uncommon to have multiple hots, neutrals and grounds nutted together in a single recept box. Perhaps the loose connection might be there. [u]Shutting off and verifying the power of coarse</u>.
