  • ADDING A GROUND FOR A RANGE PLUG?

I have a 3 wire 220v 50A range service and would like to upgrade it to a four wire plug.

The present cable is a 6/3 MI cable running about 24 feet through the basement then stubbed up directly to the plug.

Would it be legal to run a strand of # 10 THHN Green, secured to the cable with cable ties to effect the ground for a four wire plug?

While I believe it would be legal to run a separete insulated #8 ground wire from the panel to the receptacle, it would be just as easy to upgrade it to a 4 wire cable. That's how I would do it anyways.

I'd have to go along with kactus - #8. While all you're adding is an equipment ground conductor #8 makes more sense.
