How do I wire a switch to all the outlets in the room, where the bottom outlet is always on and the top outlet is controlled by the switch? Any help/pics would be greatly appreciated.

In order to do so you are going to need to replace the existing two wire cable with 3 wire cable.
The outlets can share the neutral but you will need separate power conductors for the upper and lower outlets. One conduct remains hot at all times while a switch in placed in line on the second conductor.
When installing the actual plug device you will need to break out the link tab that connects the terminals on the hot side. (Gold colored screw side). If you forget to break a tab out both outlets will be on full time on the whole run.
