    Hologen Ceiling Fisture / wiring?

I want to replace a standard incandescent ceiling fixture with a new halogen type. The existing fixture is on a circuit with a dimmer switch. Will the new halogen fixture work on this circuit?

If the new fixture operates on line voltage(120VAC) you'll be fine with a dimmer in the circuit. Some low voltage halogens(which use a transformer to step the line voltage down to 12 volts) have dimmable transformers, others do not. Check the documentation that came with the fixture if you're using low voltage lighting.

As stated if the halogen bulb is 120 volt dimming should not be a problem but if the 120 is on a transformer down to 24 or 18 volts, transformer primaries don't like under voltages. lower voltages or chopped AC doesn't sit too good with a transformer.
