    smoke detector

The hard-wired smoke detector in my bedroom started chirping about an hour ago. The one in the hallway right outside the bedroom (also hard-wired, and on the same circuit-breaker) isn't doing that. The green light on the chirping one stays lit, but every minute or so the red light will flash briefly. Then 8 seconds later it chirps. I've tried throwing the breaker switch, to no avail. How can I get it to shut up so I can get some sleep tonight??? Any help will be MUCH appreciated.

Check and see if the unit is hardwired with a battery backup? In most cases when a smoke detector is just chirping occasionally it is indicating a weak battery which needs replacement.
