I am having trouble with the "Lighting of America" Model: 9050 HPS outdoor light.. The original fixture was installed in 1999. Had to replace bulb in 2001. In 2003 I thought the bulb again went out so I bought a new one.. The new bulb didn't work but did in another fixture, so I replace the entire dusk/dawn light fixture. All worked well until 2006 when the bulb went out. I replaced it and now it is out again.. Same drill.. I put in a dood bulb from another fixture and it wouldn't work. Now I have to replace the entire fixture again.. Do the electronics (photo sensor circuits) go bad this often? The local HD is pushing the same fixture except the new model is a flourescent type. Besides the change in the color of the light, is it better to change to flourescent or stay with Sodium?

sodium is unpredictable. mercury is even worse! some bulbs mount is 'base up' and others are 'base down.' look on the shell - it'll be marked BU or BD.
