    Home Dimmer Switch Hums

    Light switch is a dual control; fan and light. When just the fan is on there is no noise from the switch. When the light is on it hums. Why?

      the light control uses what is called a diac. it adjusts the voltage to produce a chopped ac waveform which dims the lights -
