No finish on hard wood floor

I have moved in with my elderly mother. Her hard wood oak floors have NO finish on them and they are always dirty. I can't move everything out and finish them at this point. Is there anything I can do to clean and preserve the wood until they can later be properly refinished?

doesn't make sense to clean the floors now for later. they'll always attract dirt and dust. put down area rugs if you must.
