  • hardwood over tile

we are looking at replacing floor tile with hardwood. The tile is the second layer of flooring and the sub is glued down to the first floor. From experience, what would others suggest -rip up the tile (best method??), or take out the sub floor and start new? How much work am i taking on here? Any feedback appreciated.

If you keep putting layers upon layers, eventually the floor will have a spongy feel. I would rip up everything and start new. Messy, expensive, yes, but you'd know what you've got!

as much as you probably do not want to hear this that would be the best route to take here.Tear it all out and start over, you don't specify what type of hard wood you are putting in but i am assuming that it is a flaoting floor and not a nail down hardwood.
Either way tear it out and start from scratch not only will you have the peace of mind of knowing you are doing it corectly but, you will have more headroom as well[8D]
