You don’t say if the ¾" oak flooring is T & G or not, but if it is, and doesn’t have any noticeable high spots or hollows you should be able to over-deck it with #8539;" ply providing it is fixed off at regular 4" intervals.

sub floor for tile?
I am planning to lay ceramic tile on a bathroom floor that is 5' x 12'.
This is in an old house that currently has 3/4 oak flooring directly on the floor joists with no subfloor.
I need to keep the overall buildup as low as possible, so what is the minimum thichness of plywood subfloor and tile backerboard I can go with?
