Is it possible to repair about a foot long and half foot wide bleach discoloration of the living room carpet without replacing the whole room's carpet. If so what would be the approximate cost?

This problem can usually be handled very easily by a good carpet installer. They cut out the bad piece and invisibly seam in a new piece to replace it.
The problem is finding a suitable replacement piece to make the repair.
If your carpet is fairly new and that type & color is still in production they may be able to get a new piece to make the repair. If not, you may have some extra carpet in a closet that could be removed and used for the repair.
One of the major problems you may encounter is if your carpet is a bit older or exposed to direct sunlight the color may be faded slightly, which would make it nearly impossible to get an exact match.
There are a number of other tricks that carpet installers use, such as -redying the carpet, or in some instances when the damage is adjacent to an entry door they can cut it back and install a vinyl or hardwood sweep landing area near the door.
The best advice I could offer would be to contact a carpet store and have then send a carpet installer to assess your problem and give you the options.
