  • furnace will not turn on

Help! I have a gas furnace that will not cycle when I flip the on switch or when I turn the thermostat on. Do I need a new thermostat?

Dee; The best way to eliminate the T stat as the problem would be to check if there is power (24V coming into the therm) . if there is, then you can "jump the R and W, and see if it allows the burner to kick in. Keep us posted. Hube

dee, R&W in this case is a reference to Red and White wires that connect to the back of your thermostat.

Simply touch the two together and the furnace will begin it's cycle.
If the furnace dose come on then RECHECK all the thermostat conections
to see if perhaps you only had a loose wire.
Depending on the thermostat type you may also have dirty contacts/connections.
