  • Old Lennox G12

Just bought house with old Lennox (1980 model)G12RQ3-137 furnace. Has crusty fiberglass filter in bent wire frames on both sides up inside. Anyone know what this stuff is called and where to buy more? It looks like a glass mesh of some sort.
    Thanks

It's called filter media. Contractors can get it from most wholesale houses. I would guess it could be bought somewhere on the web. Stay away from fiberglass; find foam, washable media. As long as keep it clean it will perform fairly well.

Glad to hear of a date for the Lennox G12. I have an even older G8, which I thought was about 30 years old. Still works fine, but am thinking of replacing it this year...

        G12 Series Furnace Filter Location???
Can someone please tell me the location of the filter?I would like to replace it, I just moved into a new home and know it hasn't been changed in over 1 year. I believe I have the Upflow series. Is this something I can do myself? I have the manuals, I just can't seem to get inside the furnace. I've opened the top door, nothing there, and the bottom door is shut tight with finishing nails.

        THANKS!

Ill have to go the other way here dont get a pad or washable filter they dont get the dirt out for you and down the line you will pay to have the AC coil cleaned. On that wrap around filter on the lennox that was the best one put on a furnace and did its job keep it there for sure .It comes in a roll and has to be wider than the furnace is so it hits the front and back of the unit. In there for 1 year we tell all people that they should change the filter every 30 to 90 day when the unit is running heat or cool. If you do you will save $$$$ in fuel cost. On the other with the top door off the lennox then get that bottom door off so you can check the filter and get to the blower motor if you have to. It should slide up.
