I just had a brand new 1-1/2 ton heat pump installed for the 2nd floor of my home a few weeks ago. I feel like the air temperature coming out of the vents is too low when the heat is on. I have an accurate air temp gauge that is made specifically for this purpose. With the room temperature at 68, I can turn the the thermostat to 69 to get the heat pump running. I measured the air coming directly out of the vent closest to the indoor unit about 12 feet away. The highest the air temperature climbed to was 79. It took about 10 minutes to get to this temperature and it stayed at 79 until the heat cut off. The air temperature outside was 40.
With the same outdoor air temperature, I measured the air coming out of the vent for my downstairs heat pump (3 ton), which is about 3 years old. The air temperature out of this vent was 98.
I know the downstairs unit is a 3 ton vs a 1-1/2 ton, but I wouldn't think that would make a 20 degree difference in heating performance. Shouldn't the hot air out of any heat pump be at least 15 degrees above the room temperature.
My installer has came back twice, but he thinks that it is operating correctly.
