  • Lennox G8Q3-120-1 Fan whining Loudly!

We have a Lennox G8Q3-120-1 furnace with the basket type filter. Last spring, I noticed that I was able to hear the fan on the top floor (we live in a bungalow). By summer, it was noticeably louder. We had furnace cleaning come in, and they said that it is a sealed fan unit and were not able to oil it. They also said shut the fan off. I did, and over the summer, with the warm weather, no problems. Now it is fall, the house is cold, so I turned the heat up, and turned the fan on. The whine has become a constant pitch.
We know we have to replace the fan, but where do I get the part? And can it be installed by my husband? I hope someone out there can help me with this. Thanks in advance.

take the motor apart if you can. remove the bearings and buy replacements. you'll need a three jaw bearing puller. I can't see paying out 300 bucks for a motor when the bearing that cost about 3 bucks apiece need replacing.

Thanks! I will speak to my husband about this. One quick question, where would I find a three jaw bearing puller in Edmonton Alberta Canada? And the bearings, I would assume are easy to find in Edmonton as well?

Try The Furnace Company on 8545 Coronet Rd, and if they don't stock any Lennox furnace parts ask them if they can recommend any companies in the area who do. You can also try hvacpartshop.com, they boast to be the number one internet source for Lennox furnace repair parts, and they have a telephone number strictly for Canadian customers.
