I bought a coal pot belly stove which I'm going to use for home heating this winter. It's a Vogelzang. I'm not too intent on shovelling in the coal and am thinking of making a sleeve a vertical column inside the stove to hold coal ready to burn. It'll be sort of a self stoker. First is this possible? My grandmother had a pot belly with this sort of thing inside it. (Factory made) My thinking is that as the coal burns and the clinkers are shaken out, new coal will drop into the firebox to keep the fire going, all I have to do is keep this column of coal full. The burning coal will not be inside the sleeve but about 5 inches below it.
