  • programmable thermostat recommendation

I currently have a Honeywell T8600C Chronotherm III. I have electric cooling and gas heat. Does anyone have a recommendation for a new programmable thermostat? Links to product literature would be great. I live in central Maryland.

    wprowe,

I've used 3 or 4 brands over the years. Sears, Ace Hardware, and others. Some are obviously more sophisticated than others - and more expensive. I've just bought what ever seemed to meet my needs (in terms of sophistication) at the time. I don't think I've ever run into one that didn't work as it was advertised.

So bottom line, no suggestions here - just read the specs and try to find something that is going to do what you want it to.

I could be talking through my hat on this one, but knowing what i know about trends in the electronics industry, based upon my interest in both computers and ham radio, I would guess that all of the programables are working on minor variations of the same logic boards.

I know that i have seen precious little changes in detail or function between the different brands of programables that i have come in contact with. In my humble opinion if the truth were told, they are all basically constructed in some third world country by ppl who work for a minimum weekly wage & the biggest singular difference being which case they put them in and who's label is stuck on it.

          LazyPup,

I'm sure you are absolutely correct about there not being a great deal of difference in the innards.

A couple of mine have fixed numbers of set back times, but I have one that can be programmed for multiple times (more or fewer, or whatever).

All in all, pretty generic except for the plastic cover.
