  • Gas furnace pressure New Info for imeduc!

I have been noticing recently that when my furnace runs for awhile the pressure valve will open and release about a pint of water very slowly evertime it goes on. I watched the pressure gauge one day and it builds up to about 20psi before the valve opens slightly. Should i worry about this or is it normal.

I take it you are talking about a boiler????? could be that the expansion tank is water logged. That PRV valve is set for 30 psi If you have a bladder tank check the, like tire valve on it and see if you get water out of it. Post back with more info on just what you have there. it helps And yes you want to get this fixed.

Thanks I will check on it. But here is what i have so far. I have hot water baseboard heat that is heated by the gas boiler. The pressure valve that leaks comes right out of the top of the boiler and stops areound 12" above boiler. The expansion tank is a few feet away mounted on the ceiling and the only valve I see on it is a regular spigot valve. Where would the bladder tank be?

      Thanks

Ok here is what I have. Cold water comes into boiler (a Hydrotherm Sabre) and into the expansion tank, they are connected on the same line. Right where the cold water comes into the tank there is a bladder on that line with what looks like a tire cap on top. Right below that is a relief valve. The valve is the type with the little flange of metal on top that you lift up and the water releases. Then the cold water pipe goes into the boiler.
The hot water comes out of 2 pipes on top of the boiler, one of these pipes has a bladder on it with the tire cap.
There is a drain valve on the cold water pipe going in and one on the hot water out. The expansion tank also has the drain valve.
Now when I opened up the relief valve on the cold water rust colored water came out. This also happened when I opened the drain on the expansion tank. When I shut the valve off I can hear the tank filling right back up. If I open any of the drain valves on any of the pipes I also hear the tank fill right back up.
        I am at a lost.
We just moved in here this past summer so the heat wasn't on till recently so I have not noticed it before.

        Thanks for all your help.

        Jason
