    compressor BANG at shut-off

    Brand new A/C through-the-wall unit.
    Works fine.
Compressor shuts off and we experience a loud BANG.
Can this be silenced? If so, how?
    Thanks in advance!

something wrong there - it shouldn't bang just normal shut down. Could be over charged and the piston and valves are banging shut from over back pressure. check with your dealer.

when you say through the wall unit do you mean PTAC like you find in a motel?

If it is brand new - take it back for warranty
