  • White Powder in Furnace and exhaust ducts

    Hi,
We're considering buying a house, but the furnace is in question. The furnace is made by "King", and is 5 years old. When you remove the cover plates there is some white powder particles all around the exhaust fan motor and all the seams and joints of the exhaust ducting and the screwheads the fasten the exhuast ducting together. What is causing the white powder to form? The top of the exhaust flue at the rood is corroded and cracked.
    Thanks,
    Zoey

Without seeing what you are seeing it sounds like the cause would be condensation. Is the flue pipe single or double wall?
