  • zone 1 and zone 2 problems

I am having a problem with my heating system. It is a hot water baseboard system with two zones on natural gas. The system is 3 years old. The previous owner had it installed.

My problem is that whenever zone 2 goes on (basement system), it will also heat zone 1 (the first floor). I do Not mean that the heat will rise and heat the 1st floor, I mean that the Zone 1 copper pipes will heat up. So if I put Zone 2 to a temperature of 67, it will get it up to 67, but in the mean time zone 1 will get up to 72-74 degrees (while the 1st floor thermostat is set on 68.)

Please look at the diagram. It seems odd that the two pumps would push water towards the furnace. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

    Any suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks
