I have been having furnace "FITS" here! Furnace went out. I Could not keep pilot light lit so I replaced the thermocoupler. Then furnace lit and stayed on fine. If I turn the thermostat up everything is fine. If I turn the thermostat down the pilot light goes out. Any ideas why this is happening?

There is a small line that goes from the main valve to your standing pilot. This operates off the thermocouple which may be electrical or mechanical. I think it is mechanical, so I think you have main valve problems. One of the orifices inside may be plugged.

The pilot itself has a small orifice. Whenever I replace the thermocouple I clean this orifice. You have to remove the pilot assembly and remove the aluminum line from the pilot assembly - the orifice will be inside where the aluminum line screwed in. Clean by using a small wire or by air taking care not to make the hole or slot any wider than what was intended.
