What temperature should a central A/C system produce at the closest vent in the system? In my case, I'm seeing 48 to 52 deg F at a vent approx 20 feet from the evaporator in the furnace. Thats with outside temps at 90 to 100F. Does that sound normal?

sounds a little cold not to mention condensate in the ductwork. I would rather see 68 degrees at the furthest register. -
taking temp ONLY at the supply means nothing.
The ideal way to check is ;take temp at the return just before the filter. Take temp at supply just out of sight of the evap coil.
Eg; return= 75
Supply= 55
temp drop= 20, which is ideal
A dirty filter, too slow a fan speed,a dirty coil, etc ,can sometimes (not always)give a higher than 20 temp drop reading. If so, the coil could "ice-up."Last edited by Hube; 07-01-2007, 09:57 AM.Comment
