Hello. I have a bryant 398aaw model furnace as u read in the title. when i turn on the thermostat u can hear the motor kick on. Then u can hear a ticking sound but the pilot light wont light unless i manually light it with a lighter. It will run then kick on and run correct untill next time it needs to kick on. Any kind of help would be appreciated as the heating season is on the way Thanks Eric

Thanks for the reply i think i got the spark generater located were it needs to be and the pilot lights like it should. Just out of curiosity about how long should it take the big burners to kick on after the pilot lights. Thanks again for the help

the glues used 20 years ago don't compare to what's available today - but I guess further down the line they'll say the same thing... panelling has an amount of moisture in it. when it starts to dry out as in winter or fall, it tends to shrink and warp. try putting a humidifier in the room with the fireplace. the added humidity will make you feel better too.

Okay so i was completely wrong about having the generater located in the correct place. Went to start my furnace today and nuthing but clicking again so this time i went and got proper tools and pulled gas line off and removed the generater. The gap between is maybe over a 1/4"! is this somethin that wears out or can i try and bend it so its only an 1/8 About how much does one cost thanks Eric

well i guess i need to call a pro cause i got the gap to about 1/8" and cleaned it up put it back in and it still wont light itself and now when i light it my blue flame is now mostly orange have no idea what to do and its 60 in the house. After i light it manually and had mostly orange flame about 10 min the big burner kicked on ran for about 2 min and shut off What am i missing here.

YEAH I GOT IT. lol i took it all back apart and was lookn at it and saw a piece layn on the ground with about a 45 thousands hole. Put it in where the gas line hooks up and put it back together. Voila it light byitself and the big burner kicked back on and now i have heat. Thanks for the help
