need help with thermostat

i recently bought a home with a furnace that has 2 basic thermostats and i want to change them over to programmable. my problem is that i have six wires for the main level thermostat and i cannot find one that is compatible for this. i am replacing two honeywell trol a temp thermos. is there a better manufacturer?

also, could someone explain to me what master and slave mean when it comes to thermostats? sorry to be such a neophite, but i am trying!

Sounds like you have 1 furnace with zone dampers controlled by the t-stats. The master stat has 6 wires it not only calls for heat or cool but governs whether the systems is running in heat or cool depending on the heat/cool switch. The second stat (slave) only calls for heat or cool. I am making asumptions here but it most likely would be easy to replace with most regular t-stats.
