  • Hunter Thermostat Problem

My daughter has a problem with her Hunter "Energy Monitor II Plus" digital thermostat. At times the thermostat doesn't start the furnace, when heat is required, until you "touch" the outer casing. When this happens a clicking sound(s) from the furnace is heard right before it goes on. What is the problem? Thanks.

Milron; Welcome to the forum; By saying "until you touch the outer casing' leads me to think this thermostat has a "contact" fault within the thermostat itself..Check for any loose wires on the contact terminals. The click you hear is the ignition or valve of the furnace kicking in (normal). After making sure the there are no loose wire under the terminals, you could try JUMPING the incoming wires at the thermostat (usually Red to White (L1 HOT to HEAT RELAY) If you get a proper start to the burner, then the thermostat IS indeed faulty. Let us know how you make out. Hube
