If the furnace has not been running for a while due to warm weather, when it goes to lightup, I hear clicking for more than normal. Than after the clicking for longer than it should be, the gas burners light but not before they make a loud noise. If the furnace has run recently due to cold weather, this is not noticible and the burners light up quickly. When the burners light up after being out for a while, there seems to be too much pressure and they burn irraticly.
I guess what I am trying to conver is this; the furnace runs very quietly with no clicking from the igniter and the burners run smoothly if the furnace is running normally for cold weather, but if the weather turns warmer and the furnace does not run very much, it seems to build up too much pressureand after the igniter finally lights the pilot light, the the burners make a loud noise,flames shoot out the front of the burners briefly, and the gas is erratic. Could this be a faulty igniter or worn out igniter because the furnace is 12 years old. Is the excessive pressure at the burners due to the fact that the igniter is not lighting the pilot quick enough that there is excessive pressure on the burners before they light?
