  • Heater temps, Rutland 641, etc

Just got my M30 heater back together after replacing the combustion fan bearings so I thought I'd give a update. Since no one seemed to have the temp's I bought a infrared temp gun to find out what the heater runs at. The burner runs about 525 degrees on high and looses about 70-100 at each heat exchanger before it reaches the exhaust fan at 200 degrees or less. The Rutland 641 sealant worked perfect for replacing the rope packing that sealed the exhaust case before and since its good to 800 degrees would be good for any gasket on the heater. It's supposed to be easily removable as well. For anyone doing this job on one of these old heaters, the fans are balanced as a unit. Two of them use set screws that tighten down on flats on the shaft and the third can be put on one of two ways. Had to pull mine back apart after I put the one fan on 180 degrees off. Got it done just in time for snow!
