I'm installing a softener in a basement and need to tie in a drain. Is there anything wrong with tapping into a section of PVC drain and installing a fitting with a small check valve? There are no open drains in this basement. Washer is installed on second floor.

Some local codes will apply to the type of drain material(plastic, copper pvc) used to drain the softener. Also, if you have a Manual, it will state how much the maximum distance in vertical heigth you can discharge. This distance is usually a max of 8 ft. Check your local bldg codes. Do you have a sump hole in this basement?. Sometimes it can be used if approved. Good luck Hube
