    Water at bottom of dishwasher

Probably a silly question but are dishwashers supposed to have a pool of water at the bottom? I tried to see if mine was clogged by taking off the piece of plastic that covers the bottom drain and was a bit surprised to see a pool of water. There's nothing for me to clear up in the washer so if it's clogged it's somewhere I can't get to.

Yes there is supposed to be a pool of water in the bottom of the dishwasher. In recent years dishwashers have beed designed with a cover of that sump so it would not be as obvious but it is there for a specific purpose. That layer of water insulates the motor seals when the heating element is on during the drying cycle thus preventing the seals from drying out and leaking prematurely.
