Washer "Tap-n'-Drain" Trap?

Does a washer "tap-n'-drain" get trapped[?] I assume it does but our half-as[:0]ed contractor didn't do it. Should it be[?] Our current one is trapped, but the new one currently is it. I need to know before drywall goes up...[V]

By tap-n-drain i presume you mean the recessed type "washer Box" that has both the water supply valves and drain line in a common recessed box. All drains require a trap. In the case of the recessed box the trap is normally installed under the floor (basement or crawl space) with a riser going up to the box.
If the drain is over a concrete slab such as in a basement or one story on slab construction the drain most likely has a trap under the concrete. If it does not have an under slab trap, or in situations where you can not access it under floor the option is to install a trap in the wall, then install a service access panel.

Here code would call for a trap on it . There in the wall just above the floor so it could be worked on if need be.

Thanks, they said "oh, we never put in a trap for the washer!"... Anyway, we asked them to, and they will. In the crawlspace...

For the record i need to correct a previous post. A laundry service drain trap may not be installed under the slab. If a laundry is over a slab floor the trap must be greater than 6 inches but not more than 18 inches above the floor. If it is installed in the wall a suitable access panel at least 12 x 12 inches must be provided for service. Now in regards to traps. With the singular exception of the water heater T&P discharge line, all drain connections must have a trap. The T&P (temperature and pressure relief valve) discharge line must undiminished in size and must be connected by means of an indirect waste or a line must be run outside the structure and dischage downward with the opening not less than 6 nches above average grade, and there may be no valves on the line, and no threads on the discharge end of the line.
