  • Toilet flushing

When I flush my 1.6 GPF., toilet the water swishes around in the tank but it doesn't flush the water out completly. (No woosh in the flush.) Is there something that needs adjusting or replacing?

    Thank you,
    Fred

Due to the minimal amount of water per flush there are a couple adjustments that are critical but often overlooked when setting up a 1.6gal flush toilet.

    1. Look inside the tank and you will see a "Water Level" index either printed or embossed on the inside of the tank. It is critical that the water MUST BE up to the water level index line. If the water level is below the line adjust the float on the fill valve to raise the water level.

    2. Check the chain from the flapper ball to the toilet flush handle. The chain should be attached to the handle so that the chain hangs as vertical as possible and not more than two links of slack in the chain.

    3. When the flush handle is fully depressed the flapper ball should be quickly pulled to the full upright position. If there is too much slack in the chain the flapper ball is lifted slowly and does not allow a strong initial discharge of water to properly start the flush.

4.Some new toilets are equipped with a water saving two stage flush system. Lightly depressing the handle only discharges part of the water in the tank to cause a light flush, which is suitable to discharge liquid waste from the bowl. The handle must be fully depressed and held a second to effect a full flush to discharge solids.

Check the water inlet holes on the underside of the bowl rim. If those holes are partly obstucted by water scale or waste it will cause a slugging flush.
