  • Toothbrush stuck in toilet..what can I do??

One of my kids flushed a toothbrush down the toilet, and now the toilet clogs every time it's flushed. I have taken the toilet off twice. I ran a snake all the way through it, and that didn't budge it. THen I cut off a piece of garden hose, and pushed that down through it and pulled back and forth on the ends to try to unlodge it. That didn't work either. It is lodged in there on a slant and I just can't seem to get to it. Is there anything I can do to get it out, or am I going to have to buy a new toilet?

    Thanks for any help.
    Anne

Sometimes retrieving foreign objects from a toilet trap can be a real challenge and in some instances it proves nearly impossible, however there is a method that I have used rather successfully in the past.

First of all, working from the top of the toilet will only push the object deeper into the trap or if it passes through it will most likely cause a clog further down the pipe.

First lift the toilet, then working from the bottom opening pass a fairly stiff wire through the trap until it extends out through the bowl opening. (I find that AWG 12 THHN solid electrical wire works great)

Now make a small wad of rags and tie it on the wire near the base of the toilet. The wad needs to be small enough to pass through the toilet, but still large enough to push the obstruction out. Keep a tail of wire extending out the back so if the rag gets stuck you can pull it from the base. Now pull the wire from the bowl end and as it passes through the trap is should push the obstruction out.
