  • Question for lazypup

Hi this is hayzee - got a question --- will mapp gas get hot enough for me to use silphos in making up some copper pipe and fittings? I'm going to bury about 30 feet of copper outside from the garage to my house where I have a shop set up. Pipe's going to be used for compressed air from my garage compressor.

    Hi Hayzee,,

There are a number of variables involved here.

Siphos rod is typically made in 15%, 6% and 0% silver. I prefer to use the 6% although the 15% requires less heat and flows better.

If you have a torch with a premix chamber such as a Turbo-Torch or a Bernzomatic TS-4000 you should have no trouble brazing copper up to 3/4"

Another option which may be simpler would be to run the underground with medium wall continuous roll copper pipe. (Roll copper pipe has the same specs as hard drawn copper pipe, just be sure you get copper pipe, not copper tubing.)
