  • How Hot

I was wondering how much hotter MAPP gas is than propane. I found this chart at Bernzamatic and it had too much info. I'm using the Berzamatic TS4000 head. Could you tell me with this head how hot it gets with Propane & MAPP gas?

    Thank you,
    Fred

I don't know the exact temperatures but soldering occurs at temperatures of 800degF or less and Brazing is 800degF or more.

With a fuel air premix torch such as your TS4000 Propane is the proper fuel for soldering except under extreme conditions such as working outdoors in windy conditions during a rough in or working copper pipes 1" or greater.

Mapp gas should not be used for soldering because the excess heat will anneal the copper and oxydize the solder leaving a weak joint.

With the TS-4000 and MAPP gas you can silver braze up to 1" copper with 6% or 15% silphoz rod.
