  • Floor Drain

There is a floor drain in my basement floor. It is 6.5" in diameter. I have several hoses draining into it but the problem one is the water softener. It drains so fast that it literally shoots over the top of the drain cover bypassing the holes & gets all over the floor. Is there a different drain cover that I can buy that is sunken or some other configuration where this water will go directly into the drain?

You will not be able to find a different type of trap cover because most floor drains do not use a conventional P-trap. Instead the cap has an inverted tube section that extends into a circular trough surrounding the drain to effect a trap. Using any other type of cover will negate the trap function and would allow potentially dangerous sewer gasses to enter the structure.

    See the attached illustration.
