  • under sink drain issue

I am having a under-sink drain leak problem around a fitting where the threads are stripped. I am trying to use Harvey's Soil Seal to fix the problem but with poor results. Is there another product I should be using? This has happened once before with another sink and I bought a material that dried to a black, asphalt-like consistency. However I have not been able to find that product...

Could you post a picture of your situation ( Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket is one free site to do this)?

Generally, anything you goop around a pipe joint is a poor subsittute for taking it apart and doing a proper fix.

Off the top of my head I can think of a half dozen different products that are commonly used by homeowners to make a goopy mess of an otherwise simple project. At best those products perform marginally and in all reality they often cost far more than the retail cost of the parts to do the job correctly and have a permanent solution to your problem.

If you could post a photo, drawing or provide a bit more information about which specific joint is leaking we should be able to give you complete instructions on how to fix this problem correctly the first time for less money and in many cases less real work.
