  • Water Heater repair

Is it possible or worth it to repair a gas water heater after it is soaked from a flooded basement? It is a 40 gallon gas water heater.

if the tank isn't rusted out I don't see why not! dry off everything and clean out the venturi of crap. Remove the pilot tube and clean/ dry it out and replace it.

Almost all manufacturers of gas water heaters that I know of state that when a water heater has been flooded that it should be replaced and not repaired, This is in agreement with the GAMA (Gas Appliance Manufacturer’s Association) guidelines.

So for your safety the water heater should be replaced.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
