I,m trying to find out how to do the finish work on a bath tub surround. Does the green board go to the top of the surround flange or does it set on top of the shoulder and also on the sides of the surround how does that get finished. thank you

I would say that it goes on top of the flange because if it went on the shoulder with the surround in place, water would wick its way up the greenboard

If you are installing a one piece vinyl or fiberglass shower enclosure you may use greenboard, but greenboard MAY NOT be used in a shower enclosure for ceramic tile.

Greenboard may not be installed over a vapor barrier.

Greenboard may be used for backing ceramic tile in all areas except the shower enclosure.

When installing ceramic tile in the shower enclosure you are required to install bakerboard (concrete board) to a point 72" above the finished drain elevation.

Backerboard requires a building paper backing. (moisture barrier).

The greenboard or backerboard should stop 1/2" above the tub apron. The finish material is then installed down to the tub apron and caulked. (Keeping the board 1/2" high will prevent the board from wicking up any moisture that possibly gets behind the finish.)

both greenboard and backerboard must be installed with corrosion resistant fasteners.

All cut edges, seams and screw or nail heads must be sealed with water resistant finish.

Greenboard MAY NOT be installed on the ceiling if the framing is greater than 12" center to center.
