  • New driveway question

We need to replace our terrible asphalt driveway and are looking at concrete - either white or aggregate. My question is... what is a reasonable warranty on the work and what should be specified in the warranty?

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

A ten year warranty is almost always specified. The load bearing on a slab is a slump of 2 inches for a 3000 lbs mix. a stiffer slump is for 6000 lb test. If you are wondering about slump, look it up on the internet. What it is - is a metal cone that is filled with a sample of the mix. after it is filled, the cone is removed and the mix slumps down a number of inches because of the water in it. a dry mix doesn't slump as far as a wet mix. its basically used for a test of the load bearing characteristics of the mix when dry and cured.

Thanks! That's helpful. The first bid I got offered a 2 year warranty and that seemed pretty low. Since I'm not able to "test" their mix, I guess the way to validate the quality is by the warranty.

What should the warranty specify? Cracks? Anything else?
