My mortar covering the cement on my foundation is coming off. I've attached pictures for viewing. My house is over a 100 years old. I am getting ready to build a new deck & cover for it but need to repair this first. I would like to put a treated 2 x 12 or something over this and paint it. Do I need to replace the mortar first? If so how do I proceed doing this. I'm a woman, have a little knowledge of how to do things and can do this if told how to. All advice is appreciated. Thanks so much.
