Painting over Stain?

I have a picnic table that has been stained (redwwod color) several times over the years...Now we want to paint it a solid color (grey). Can a latex based house paint be applied over a stain or is there something better to use. Thank you

sure

shouldn't b a problem. I would lean to a solid latex stain instead. that will leave u texture of the wood that paint will not.
