Bear with me, as I am an HVAC novice.
I have 2 Trane units (upstairs and downstairs). The upstairs is not working. Downstairs is fine.
About a month ago, the thermostat upstairs (Honeywell focus pro 5000) went blank. I found the (empty) battery compartment and put in 2 AAs and the display came back on. However, when we tried to turn on the heat yesterday, nothing happened. The display shows the inside temp, the set temp and says Emergency heat on, but nothing happening. I live in a warm area (Mississippi) and I believe this is the first time we tried to turn it on since the display went blank, so it likely has been out since then (I assume the battery is a back-up for the display only). I've checked the house breakers but all is OK.
Questions -
Is there a breaker on the inside unit that I need to reset?
Could it be the outside unit (I haven't been out there yet)?
What more information do I need to get an idea of what might be wrong and whether it might be an easy fix (flip a breaker) vs calling the HVAC guys.
Many thanks
Peter
