  • Ruud AC Question

Hello, I have a Ruud UPNJ-030JAZ outside unit.

The relay contactor is making serious CHATTERING noise.

I want replace the relay myself. I had this done about 18 months ago and just don't want to pay to have six screws removed and replace.

Two questions. This unit originally had a three pole relay. However, the "technician" replaced it with a two pole. I don't see why a two pole is not adequate. Thoughts?

Any way, I don't know why this relay only lasted 18 months, but it is on the verge of death.

The big question. Where can I buy the part?!?! I cannot find anyone that will sell it over the counter. Well, I did find one source on-line that wants $130.00 for one. Any one know of any sources local to Baltimore, MD or on-line that sells these relays for a decent price?

    Thanks!!!

    Bob

Might see if you can buy from Grainger or Johnstone Supply there if you have them there.

Run a Google Search for "HVAC contactor"
I found about 100 sources that will supply them for $35 to $45

Hayzee....for the majority of condensing units it is just an open type 220v 30A normally open contactor with 24vac control.

If the contactors are failing prematurely check the output voltage of the control transformer and measure the actual output voltage at the contactor. Often loose or corroded connections on the control cable are the problem.
