  • Radiant Closed System ?

    Hi all -

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving !
Question of the day...... Can I install a "closed system" with it's own small water heater for a small space ? Hooking up to exisitng system may be a problem - so I was wondering if it can be done. It would be installed under a wood floor in the joists - and can place a small electric water heater close to it. Please give me some advice !
    Thanks !

There should be no problem with doing it that way, however, the water heater you select has to be listed as a heating boiler/water heater.

Water heaters that also serve as heating boilers are quite common and you should have no problem finding one listed for this application.

My personal choice of water heaters is A.O.Smith or Rheem, but they are all pretty much the same.

That water heater seems to have very good specs, however, shopping for the water heater at this time is sort of putting the cart before the horse.

You would need to determine the BTU requirements for the space you intend to heat, then select a water heater that is also listed as a hydronic boiler with a BTU rating equal to or slightly greater than your demand. In essence they are the same as a common water heater but they also have a BTU rating for use as a hydronic boiler.

Many common water heaters do have the hydronic specs but you have to ask the MFG or dealer for the spec sheet for the hydronic application.
