Hi guys. my furnace was leaking and after removing a cover near the drain line, I found a metal filter about 2 inches thick by 1 foot high and 8 inches wide. The entire thing is made of metal and metal fibers and was rotten. It was completely clogged so I hosed it out and the metal disentegrated. I looked around and couldn't find this type of filter anywhere. What is it called and where can I find one? This furnace is pretty old, it's a Carrier super saver. I couldn't find a model or serial number anywhere. Thanks for your help!!

12"X8" dont sound like much of a filter. I check the AC coil to see if its clean here also. lots of times have to get a 1" filter and cut it to fit. just make two and you have the 2"

Why don't you just contact the company, provide them with the serial and model number from the manufacturer nameplate on your furnace and I'm sure they'll be able to provide you with a part number so you can buy a new one.

After years of cleaning dirty evaporator coils I a firm believer in timely changing the filters. With that thought it mind, rather than going to the expense and bother of trying to locate a specific filter that is obviously difficult to obtain, I would simply install a conventional filter slot on the return air duct to take advantage of readily available filters.Comment
