  • Gas Log Question

Our new house (not brand new) has gas logs in the fireplace. Is it advised to have the chimney cleaned before using the logs? How much heat goes up the chimney with the gas logs vs. wood? What is the chances of the chimney catching on fire with gas logs? I have never had the gas logs but I hate fire places and fire. Thanks

I don't think you have to worry about gas logs. they're merely ceramic or porcelain castings made to look like wood. underneath inside is a natural or propane gas burner. the flame heats the logs and they radiate heat into a room. no creosote is generated so you don't have to worry about a chimney fire.

      thanks Hayzee,
I was more concerned about the creosote that may be in the chimney currently getting hot and igniting. I noticed a few random sparks when I fired it up last night. thanks you've eased my mind about it.
