If you have a smell from your Laser 56 heater the igniter is the first place to look, The factory provided gasket is made of rubber and will crack after some time. The fiber gasket around the igniter port may shrink and separate but can be pushed back together. The igniter gasket has to be replaced with the new style, which is metal. If the circulating fan and cover is allowed to remain dirty for long periods of time the wires of the igniter can get very hot and become de-soldered. If this happens you will have to replace the igniter.
