  • L560 noise

Back again, a year later... My Laser 560 makes a noise when going from Medium to low burn. It sounds a lot like it's trying to summon a whale. Quick back story, I had issues last year with burn chamber and other stuff which was figured out. Stove currently runs and heats workshop fine.... except for the noise and a yellow flame. Originally had the burner coating but I installed a burner mat from an L56 as recommended. Works great, but I'm thinking my glue for the mat wasn't the best, hence the noise on med to low burner. Would the mat starting to lift make that noise? Should I try replacing the mat again if the chamber is in good shape?

    Thanks,
    Des

    Yes Bustech,

Replacing the burner mat and ring will get rid of that howling. Also, make sure you have no obstructions to the exhaust and air at the tip of the flue pipe.

To properly install a burner mat you need to clean the bottom of the burner pot. I use an electric drill and a silica pad. Wipe off the residue with MEK and blow dry.

Use a torch and heat the burner mat to remove the oils on the mat. It only takes a second of heat. This will make the mat much more flexible.

Mix up the whole tube of glue on a piece of cardboard. Mix thoroughly. I use the glue tube to spread the glue over the whole bottom of the pot. You will only need about half of the glue for a L560. It should be spread thin, so that when you press the mat down lightly very little glue comes up through the weave.

Once installed the glue has to dry completely. Either over night or with the help of a hair dryer.

The above procedure will get you a well glued mat that will last a long time. Do not be tricked by the ease of use of the burner coating. It has never worked, since it was introduced.
