plumbers putty

I am installing a kohler unmount basin in thevanity with a hasgrohe solaris widespread faucet for the bathroom.........

question: even if the instructions don't call for plumbers putty at the basin drain should I use it anyway or simply tighten the hell out of that big nut?

Thank you very much...cuz it is all of a sudden leaking from just under the bowl above the trap where the rubber gasket thingy is under the bowl....thanks..
